Breast Implant Revision - Case 5

This 30 year old entertainer came to Minneapolis Plastic Surgery for breast implant revision. She was a 23 year old mother of two when she first underwent breast augmentation (elsewhere) with saline implants. She disliked the “water-balloon” feel of her implants, as well as her overly wide cleavage, and lack of upper pole fullness, but did not want the scars of a breast lift. Larger implants were requested, and she underwent outpatient pocket enlargement and exchange of saline to cohesive silicone gel implants under a light general anesthetic (TIVA) in our nationally-accredited (AAAASF) on-site surgical facility. She did extremely well post-op until excessive activity caused a breast hematoma on post-op day 13, requiring surgical evacuation. Despite a now-higher risk of capsular contracture, she continued to recover uneventfully with no further complications. Hematoma risk in our breast augmentation patients is 1-2%, and most commonly occurs in day 10-33 post-op, usually related to too-soon strenuous activity.
