Other Body Procedures

Minneapolis Plastic Surgery, LTD. offers additional procedures besides abdominoplasty, liposuction, and body contouring that can improve the appearance of other problem areas. Skilled plastic surgery can correct gynecomastia (overdeveloped male breasts), as well as remove excess fat and skin from the upper arms (brachioplasty) and thighs (medial thigh lift, lateral thigh lift or posterior lift, buttock lift, or completion beltlift). For men who find it difficult to build muscle in their chests and calf areas, pec (pectoral) implants and calf implants are available.  Our American Board of Plastic Surgery-certified plastic surgeons also have extensive experience with labioplasty and non-genital transgender surgeries. All of these procedures and more can be performed at our Minneapolis, Minnesota nationally-accredited (AAAASF) on-site surgical facility.

Thigh Lift

Thigh lifts are typically performed on people who have lost a significant amount of weight, resulting in loose or sagging skin in the inner thigh, outer thigh, and buttock area. Exercise can tone muscles and help lose excess fat, but stretched or drooping skin cannot be exercised or tightened in any significant way except by plastic surgery.

Lateral thigh lift and buttock lift is part of a lower body lift, but it can be completed on its own (completion belt lift, buttock lift, or posterior lift) for patients who have previously undergone abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), and wish to remove excess skin and fatty tissue localized in these remaining areas.

For some inner thigh lift patients, incisions can be hidden at the top of the inner thigh in the groin crease, making the scars from this surgery very discreet.  Larger amounts of loose skin may require the addition of vertical scars along the inside of the upper legs.

There are several methods and types of incisions used in different types of thigh lifting, and it is advisable to speak with our plastic surgeons about the aesthetic issue you hope to address through plastic surgery.  We will strive to help you learn more about how thigh lift procedures can be tailored to your individual needs. After surgery, it is common for patients to experience some bruising and swelling or a tight feeling in the thigh area. Drains may be used, and are usually left in place until drainage is less than an ounce of fluid per 24 hours.  Compression garments or elastic/Velcro binders are worn to assist in the healing process. It may take up to two weeks until patients are able to return to work after surgery.

Costs for Thigh Lift Surgery

With the various types of thigh lifts available for each patient’s specific needs, exact costs will be determined at the time of complimentary consultation with our American Board of Plastic Surgery-certified plastic surgeons, who will examine you and make the appropriate assessment based on your needs and goals. For example, a “standard” 3 1/2 -hour medial thigh lift (without vertical incisions) will cost about $13500, inclusive of surgeon’s fees, operating room, anesthesia, and all post-op care. Completion beltlift, posterior lift, or buttocks lift (lateral thigh lift plus buttocks lift) will cost about $12900. Exact costs are available at the time of complimentary consultations by our ABPS-certified plastic surgeons. Financing options are also available.

Because of the high demand for free consultations with our plastic surgeons, our staff will ask for a credit card number in order to schedule a consultation; there is no charge whatsoever for appointments that are kept–you will be charged $100 only if you fail to keep a scheduled appointment, or fail to cancel at least 48 hours in advance of your appointment time–for Monday appointments, you must cancel no later than noon on the previous Thursday; for Tuesday appointments, you must cancel by noon on the previous Friday.

Pec (Pectoral) Implants

The traditional exercises intended to build the pectoral muscles produce their desired results in some men, but in others, strong, athletic-looking pectoral muscles are more elusive. Special solid silicone pectoral implants have been developed specifically for men to simulate the appearance and feel of these muscles. Pec implants can be surgically implanted by the Minneapolis Plastic Surgery, LTD. plastic surgeons at our nationally-accredited (AAAASF) on-site surgical facility. An upper body compression vest or elastic bandage is used until the tissues heal around the implants.  Incisions are usually concealed in the armpit area, but individual anatomic concerns may require other options.  Specialized implants can also help patients with contour irregularities in the sternal (breastbone) area.  It is important to keep in mind that post-surgery chest exercise must be delayed for one to two months, depending on how quickly each patient heals.

Some men (and women) may have unilateral (one side only) absence of part or all of the pectoralis major muscle and breast of the affected side; this is termed Poland’s syndrome. Hand and upper extremity abnormalities can also exist with Poland’s syndrome patients. Unilateral custom pec implants can achieve improvements in symmetry in men with Poland’s syndrome, just as different-sized breast implants can improve symmetry in breasts of two different sizes in women with this syndrome.

Costs for Pec Implants

Bilateral pec implant surgery will cost approximately $9800, inclusive of surgeon’s fees, operating room, anesthesia, “standard” (non-custom) implants, and all post-op care. Custom implants will cost more, and are tailored to each patient’s unique anatomic needs, but may only be needed on one side (Poland’s syndrome patients). Exact costs are available at the time of complimentary consultations by our ABPS-certified plastic surgeons. Financing options are also available.

Calf Implants

Strong and muscular calves make legs look shapely and attractive, or muscular and sculpted. Some men and women are able to achieve improved lower leg contour through extensive exercise, but others are unable to do so, regardless of how much they exercise and strengthen these muscles. Some patients have loss of one leg’s calf contour due to injury or disease, such as polio or nerve injury causing loss of muscle bulk on the affected side.

Calf implants can be placed in order to rectify these problems and create the appearance of defined, sculpted legs. Special solid-silicone calf implants are designed specifically for this purpose, and nicely replicate or enhance the normal calf anatomy—to do this properly, usually two implants are used per leg, each replicating a medial or lateral gastrocnemius muscle belly. In the calf implant procedure, incisions are made behind each knee. The custom soft solid silicone implants (firm muscle-like density, not “squishy” like breast implants) are surgically placed into the correct locations and the incisions are closed. Elastic wraps and compression stockings are used to maintain the implants in position for several weeks until healed, and help to avoid fluid accumulation or swelling. Normal healing after surgery will create a scar capsule around the calf implants that securely hold them in place.

Costs for Calf Implants

Bilateral calf augmentation (4 implants–2 per calf) costs are about $8800, inclusive of surgeon’s fees, operating room, anesthesia, implants, and all post-op care. Exact costs are available at the time of complimentary consultations by our ABPS-certified plastic surgeons. Financing options are also available.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty or labioplasty is a surgical procedure that can reduce or reshape the labia minora—the skin that surrounds the female clitoris and vaginal opening. Many women with large or protruding labia have silently suffered from pain with intercourse, discomfort with activities such as running, or irritation and embarrassment with certain bathing suit bottoms or tight clothing. Other may find excessive labial skin unattractive, or feel self-conscious sexually, while some women wish to enhance their sexual experience by removing excess skin covering the clitoris. Large or excessive protrusion of the labia (minora, or inner lips) can be caused by genetics or childbirth, but regardless of the cause, surgical labiaplasty can greatly improve the appearance and reduce the difficulties associated with abnormally enlarged labia. Often this can be performed under local anesthesia as a straightforward in-office outpatient procedure. Pain is minimal and recovery is usually uneventful; scars are almost always imperceptible.

Labia Majora (outer lips) can be excessively large, especially with weight gain, or “deflated” or empty after weight loss. Liposuction or fat grafting can normalize the appearance of the labia majora for women who wish improvement in these areas, and can be combined with labiaplasty surgery of the inner lips, if wished.

Most women undergoing labiaplasty resume everyday activities almost immediately, non-strenuous work in a day or so, and exercise or sexual activity in 2-3 weeks. The final results can give women significant improvement in appearance and reduction of irritation with activity, as well as an enhanced sexual experience.

Costs for Labiaplasty (Labioplasty)

Labiaplasty costs vary if done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Labiaplasty under local will cost approximately $2900; general anesthesia labiaplasty will cost about $5000. Exact costs are available at the time of complimentary consultations by our ABPS-certified plastic surgeons. Financing options are also available.

Non-Genital Transgender Procedures

Our surgeons and staff have worked with both female-to-male and male-to-female transgender patients for nearly 3 decades, performing such procedures as transgender (M-F) breast augmentation, transgender mastectomy (top surgery), facial feminization (brow reduction, tracheal shave, rhinoplasty, and more), as well as other body and facial plastic surgery. Other services offered by our non-surgical skin and body care sister practice MAASC (Minneapolis Anti-Aging & Skin Clinic, formerly Carillon Clinic, LTD.), such as laser hair removal, are also helpful to many of our transgender patients. Exact costs for each procedure are available at the time of complimentary consultations by our ABPS-certified plastic surgeons. Financing options are also available. We do not perform transgender genital procedures at this time. Please contact us for more information or a no-obligation consultation.
