Since completing plastic surgery training in 2016, Dr. Darlene M. Sparkman has stood out as a surgeon focused on complex plastic surgery challenges. She has treated thousands of patients with a primary focus on breast and body surgeries.

Dr. Sparkman earned her medical degree from Mayo Clinic in 2010. She pursued a highly competitive integrated plastic surgery position at the University of Cincinnati and subsequently pursued an additional year of training in complex micro-reconstructive surgery at the top-rated MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Throughout her career, Dr. Sparkman has been recognized both for her leadership and her clinical approach. She received an NIH-funded research award in medical school and was bestowed a scholastic achievement award in residency. In her early years of practice while her husband completed a military commitment in Texas, she served as Director of Plastic Surgery, Chief of the Division of General Surgery, and Chair of the Department of Surgery at a level 2 trauma hospital. She has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor and has received both an Exceptional Women in Medicine award as well as a Patient Choice Award, given to the top 25 percent of clinicians nationally.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Sparkman enjoys spending with her husband, who is also a surgeon, and their two young children. As a Minnesota native, she loves the outdoors and enjoys spending time biking, hiking, gardening or strolling through the paths of the arboretum.
